Radical One Presents: The Melting Pot EP

For lovers of electronica and world beats, Radical One just released a new EP, The Melting Pot. From the very first track forward, this EP shows off Radical One's skills as both a composer and a producer.

You can listen to the entirety of Melting Pot here. Initially, Fudge was going to be my highlight track, because I like the use of the noise envelope -  but with each listen, I find more nuances and it becomes harder and harder to pick a favorite because they all work together so perfectly.

I've listened to this three times in a row, and I find it interesting how each track contains instrumentation respective to each region of the world that inspired it, plus rhythm that calls out to each region - at the same time fusing hip-hop, edm, soul, and Latin beats that fill a spot in my library that I haven't heard since the likes of Stereolab, with hints of Cibo Matto and Underworld.

You can find Radical One on Soundcloud and BandCamp, and you can follow the release of the Melting Pot EP as well as future projects by following Radical One over on Twitter.

Definitely good stuff, and you all should be listening to this!

Burning Ice

Burning Ice is a new act from Wales, UK, home of dragons, castles, kings and princesses! Burning Ice's mission is to provide the world with quality catchy tunes!

Alternative rock you may call it - at times heavy, at times quiet, but ALWAYS melodic and powerful. Burning Ice's challenge to the audience - to listen to one of their tracks for 5 times or more without it getting stuck in your mind - in a great way!

Author's Note: I didn't pass the challenge after listening to their tracks twice. I'm hooked! Listening to Burning Ice is taking me back to my days as a radio DJ in the 90s (which is also a wonderful trip in itself).

You can keep up to date with Burning Ice's latest antics on their Facebook page and on Twitter.

Perelli - My Life

Producer: Don Juan (Mizery Entertainment)
Publisher: Heat Advisory Music Publishing (ASCAP)

Perelli has a brand new hit single, My Life, on Heat Advisory Records. Check it out. With a stalking orchestrated background that perfectly match the lyrics and the flow, My Life is the kind of track that gets stuck in your head as you move forward - always forward - letting nothing get in your way to keep you from focusing on what's best for you. Not others. Not negativity. Not drama. Your life. And Perelli hits that perfectly.

You can get My Life on iTunes, and you can follow Perelli on Twitter as well as his producer, Don Juan.

Digital Head: Time Will Tell

Electronica artist Digital Head is releasing a new album, Time Will Tell, on May 2nd (that's only 10 days from now, as of this writing). The album (Digital Head's second release) is packed with tracks that will not only have you moving, but it's almost impossible to listen without surrendering your imagination. (Seriously, sci-fi writers take note: the sounds in Time Will Tell will have you overcoming writer's block in no time flat.)

With a sound that punches holes in the envelope of the genre, Digital Head utilized digital media with judicious use of analog sounds that recall electronic music of the 70s and early 80s.

As stated above, the official release for Time Will Tell is May 2nd, but the album is available for pre-order on iTunes. I highly encourage anyone who wants to broaden their horizons with new electronica, or for people who are steeped in the genre and want something new and unlike anything you've heard before to get this album ASAP.

You can get Time Will Tell on iTunes, and keep up with Digital Head on Facebook, Twitter, and the official Digital Head web site.

Neon Black

Trackstar the DJ and longtime cohort Feekee (AKA Wafeek) present #NeonBlack from their new project Animals. #NeonBlack is the first visual endeavor from Animals and offers a heavy dose of comedic relief, cynicism, and high-speed lyricism balanced by an Office Space motif. If Animals is all about putting your friends in a position to prosper then #NeonBlack is all about taking advantage of that opportunity. It's about more than shining a light on the unseen, it's about showcasing the light shining within.

Animals fully releases on Wednesday, April 29th.

This is an incredible project, and one impressive undertaking. You can (and should) follow Feekee on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You can keep up to date on the latest developments and download some free mixes over at the official website.

Graig Markel: Borrowed Time

Graig Markel and the 88th Street Band just released their new single, Borrowed Time. This group with a vintage soul sound hails from Seattle, and has a sound in the vein of early Muscle Shoals, Stax, and the classic Motown era.

Listeners have drawn comparisons to Alabama Shakes, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, and Charles Bradley.

You can follow Graig Markel on this own site, and get the latest antics, news, and updates on Facebook and Twitter.

Give this guy a listen, because he has a style and sound that could contend with the heavy hitters of Motown!

It's All About The Chase

Okay, readers, I want to level with you - somewhere in the 90s, the radio thought it would be awesome to inundate people with Complaint Rock (it may not be an official genre, but you know it when you hear it), and I kind of tuned out the negativity in favor of more grounded lyrics and a "glass half full" positive outlook (because there's always room for the punch to be spiked).

Now that we are well into the 2000-teens, I still look for that positive sound and catchy hook that keeps me listening.

Enter Danielle Taylor's The Chase.

With upbeat compositions (seriously, check out the eponymous track from her new EP and tell me you can't have this play on any given morning and not want to take on the world - that's how contagious the enthusiasm is!) and smart lyrics (listen to the cadence and rhyme scheme on Jump Into The Unknown to hear how perfectly it matches the picture the song is painting), and you'll get a good idea of what Danielle Taylor's music is about.

But it's not just about the lyrics - there's musicianship to be appreciated, as well. I'm partial to anything featuring keyboards and vocals, and what Taylor does with those two is really enthralling. From grand chord progressions to runs and little nuances to punctuate the lyrics, Danielle Taylor's EP call to mind hints of Aimee Mann, Tori Amos, and, and, and...it is obvious that in addition to her immense creativity, there is an analytical part of Danielle Taylor's brain that hears things, breaks them down, and then reconstructs them so they become a part of her world - the way chefs will taste a great dessert and then figure out the methodology that created it.

I encourage each and every one of you to pick up Danielle Taylor's The Chase over on iTunes. Yes, I know you can hear all of her tracks on SoundCloud and Spotify, but if you like what you hear, kick some money to the artist. Free is always great, but if we don't support the artists that create the music we like, then they can't afford to make new music, and we're left with Complaint Rock (or its modern equivalent).

In the meantime, you can check out all of Danielle Taylor's work on her website, and keep up with her latest touring news over on her Facebook Page, Instagram, and Twitter.

Listen now, folks! You NEED this EP in your lives!

Lucid Optics: SADLIBS

This morning was a Monday like most - too little coffee in the can to make even half of a full-strength cup, the cat vying for my attention and insisting it can type better than I do by walking across the keyboard while I try to do research, finances I'm trying to ignore as they glower over my chair, and the eternal struggle to force a fearless face to fool the world for another 20 hours or so when I could easily find a book or blanket or some other place to stuff my head and put everything on pause...just for a little while.

Then Lucid Optics came across my screen and through my headphones, and it was exactly the turn in events that my mind needed.

Lucid Optics is indie hip-hop with a fantastic organic sounds - combining smart lyrics with analog sounds and 8-bit music. Their new album, SADLIBS, comes out on April 20th, and you can bet I'm going to add it to my collection.

What are they like?

They aren't. That is to say, I could enumerate what I hear as influences, but ultimately Lucid Optics is its own thing. Hip-tip, poetry, and punk? It's there in the lyrics. Experimental rock? It's there in the guitars. Electronica? It's all in the 8-bit music and chiptune runs. The closest thing that came to mind was Reaching Quiet's Broken Crow, which I haven't thought about since I listened to it back in '03.

Anyway, I'm running off the rails here, so let's get back on track.

Lucid Optics are based out of San Jose, CA, and they are able to harness the chaos of so many diverse genres and drive them into mindblowing tracks like Equivalent Exchange and Storms Reformed.

You can get Lucid Optics'  SADLIBS on April 20th, and in the meantime, get a sampling of their work over at bandcamp. You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter to get the latest scoop on what they're doing and where they're playing.

Teardrop Head Jed

The artist D.B. recently released the song Teardrop Head Jed. Geared toward both children and parents, the song seems to cause a huge reduction in crying (and the stress that accompanies it) after a child hears this single track a few times.

You can get this great track over at CDBaby for $1.99 - check it out today!
